Passionate aviators obsessed with your success

Juan Barco

Certified Flight Instructor

Juan discovered aviation at a young age in the form of Microsoft Flight Sim. He logged thousands of hours flying virtually but didn’t start flying real airplanes until after college. With his undergrad in hand, Juan realized that his future career would be in aviation. He looks forward to flying large airliners in the future and with any luck he’ll find himself behind the controls of a Boeing 787 criss crossing the globe.

Bill Burke

Senior Certified Flight Instructor

Bill is enjoying aviation as a second career. A licensed pilot since a young man, Bill has operated a successful small business for many years. Eventually, he chose to pursue his instructor licenses and work as a professional instructor in addition to running his business. Bill has amassed enough experience to qualify as a senior flight instructor.

Gabriel Jaszczak

Certified Flight Instructor

Gabe is originally from Montana where he was exposed to the unique back country style of flying that you can only do in that part of the world. His ultimate goal is to return home and be able to do some of that flying whether it be fire spotting, or wildlife survey.

Peter Lin

Certified Flight Instructor

Peter came to Horizon Aviation after spending time teaching in the Las Vegas, NV area. Originally from Chicago, Peter is a huge Bears fan which means the Horizon staff will be sure to point out the New England Patriots jet, and the 6 Lombardi trophies on its tail, every time it is at PVD. Perhaps one day he will be flying that 767 as he hopes to one day fly the largest jets he can find.

Nick McCooey

Certified Flight Instructor

Nick is a native Rhode Islander who discovered a fascination with flying when his family took trips to Florida when he was a child. The highlight of every trip was the airline flight to and from their vacation. As a certified flight instructor, Nick loves exploring new topics with his students and watching them progress from novice to experienced pilots.

Scott McCoy

Senior Certified Flight Instructor

Scott first began teaching at Horizon in 2002. He has gone on to fly for the airlines and is currently a captain flying a King Air 350 for a nationwide charter company. When he isn’t criss-crossing the country, Scott continues to instruct with us. He truly enjoys teaching, imparting the knowledge he has learned during his 10,000 hours of flying.

Ben Raizen

Certified Flight Instructor

Ben has always known that he wanted to fly. It wasn’t until after college that he acted on his passion. He took his first flight lesson and immediately committed himself to becoming a professional aviator. There isn’t anything in aviation that Ben doesn’t want to explore, but he hopes to one day own a classic Cessna 195.

Moe Seifi

Certified Flight Instructor

Moe grew up watching international airline traffic from all over the world flying over his home. He knew he wanted to be a part of that world. He began working on a career as a pilot with the ambition of becoming an airline captain but he has fallen in love with teaching. He loves nothing more than passing on his knowledge and his passion for flight to the younger generation of up and coming pilots.

Chris Tancrell

Certified Flight Instructor

Chris is a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he spent years as an instructor, teaching avionics maintenance. Working on and around F/A-18’s and P-3’s helped to inspire Chris to make the move from the maintenance crew to the air crew. His experience as an instructor in the Navy lends itself perfectly to teaching the fine art of flying.

Vicki Kuo

Chief Flight Instructor

Vicky was given an introductory flight as a gift several years ago. She was instantly hooked and devoted herself to her training. She completed all of her flight training in only a year and a half and has amassed close to 7,000 hours of providing flight instruction to students. When she is not instructing, she may be found exploring southern New England in her Falco F.8L.

Ray Collins

Senior Flight Instructor

Ray has amassed over 33,000 flight hours in his career and has flown everything from airlines, to Learjets, to Citation business jets. He flies with our students as a check airman, ensuring that they are meeting the goals of their training and progressing as pilots. Flying with Ray is nothing short of flying with a master pilot.

Larry Whipple

Director of Maintenance

Larry is a second generation aircraft technician, following in the footsteps of his father. He is an accomplished IA and has helped teach aircraft maintenance to hundreds of students throughout New England. Not only a technician, Larry has been flying his entire life and is a part owner of a classic 1965 Beechcraft Musketeer.

Sean Quill

Mechanic Apprentice

Sean grew up near a small airport in western MA. The Piper’s and Cessna’s flying overhead were mesmerizing. Family airline trips deepened his passion for flying and would eventually inspire a career in aviation. There is nothing he doesn’t want to explore in flying: racing, aerobatics, classic and modern. If it has wings, Sean wants to fly it.

Brian Shippee

A&P Technician

Brian is a veteran of the US Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic working on F/A-18 Hornets. His quick wit and mechanical expertise have made Brian a beloved member of the Horizon Aviation family for over 10 years. When he isn’t maintaining our airplanes, he can be found serving as a member of the T.F. Green Airport fire department.

Jack Clements

Ramp Assistant

Jack helps keeps our airplanes shiny and the grounds tidy after school and on weekends. He is a student pilot who has already soloed and is moving towards completing his private pilot before he graduates high school. When he isn’t engrossed in airplanes you can find him tearing up with ice as a star player on his school’s hockey team.

Steve Derosiers

Manager

Steve grew up near the New Bedford Airport and remembers watching airplanes come and go as a child alongside his father, also a pilot. An invitation to explore an early Gulfstream I cemented a lifelong fascination with flying. The airplane that continues to consume Steve’s imagination is the 7-ton, P-47 Thunderbolt fighter/bomber from World War II.

Alex Greenlee

Manager

Alex has been obsessed with flying ever since his family brought him to an air show in Maine when he was a child. It inspired a lifelong fascination with the history of aviation, something that still drives his flying pursuits. He is determined to not only enjoy a career as a professional pilot, but to also fly some of the world’s rarest vintage aircraft and warbirds.

Rylan Richard

Manager

Rylan grew up in an Air Force household, moving where ever his father’s next assignment took them. The experience inspired him to pursue a path towards becoming a second generation fighter pilot. Rylan’s father flew F-15C Eagles in the USAF and later, the MA Air National Guard. Already a Private Pilot, Rylan hopes to defend the United States in the same aircraft as his father.

Zeke Valtz

President

Zeke has been surrounded by aviation his entire life. After years spent flight instructing throughout the midwest, Zeke acquired Horizon Aviation in 2002. Flying is his life’s passion and is matched only by his love of teaching new pilots the art of flying, and providing a path for people to realize their dreams of flight.
