The first-solo-smile is unmistakable. It is a mixture of relief, pride, accomplishment, joy, and “I-JUST-DID-THAT!!!!!” You can’t replicate it, can’t find it anywhere else, and you have to earn it. The good news is that once you’ve found your post-solo smile, you get to wear it any time you want just by remembering that yes, you flew an airplane all by yourself.
