The new year brings two new faces to the Horizon Aviation instructor team. Luis and Kyle bring significant amounts of experience, professionalism and enthusiasm to our PVD and OWD teams.

Kyle Groteleuschen is no stranger to working in an environment where process, procedure, and attention to detail matter. Prior to becoming a certificated flight instructor, Kyle was a Captain in the United States Air Force serving as an engineer in rocket systems. Based at Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, FL Kyle oversaw many of the components, structures and systems used to launch rockets and satellites into Earth orbit. Even the allure of rocket launches couldn’t deter Kyle from dreaming of flying. He caught the flying big early as a child growing up in Fond Du Lac, WI. Anyone who has ever been to EAA Airventure will instantly recognize Fond Du Lac as a key component of the OSH arrival. Thousands of aircraft are routed over or into Fond Du Lac as one of the final waypoints into the world’s largest aviation celebration. With OSH just up the road, it is no wonder at all that aviation would be a lifelong passion for Kyle. That lifelong passion combined with his innate professionalism made Kyle a standout applicant to join our team and our Norwood crew is that much stronger as a result.

Luis Monteiro is a second generation aviator whose father flies 737s for Southwest Airlines. Despite have a professional aviator for a dad, it wasn’t until his late teenage years that Luis became interested in flying. Using his family’s Cessna 172, Luis casually started working on his Private Pilot certificate. The deeper into his training he got the more momentum he gained. Pretty soon he was looking at flying as being a career for him and was all in on earning all of his certificates and following in his father’s footsteps. Flying in the Southwest around Las Vegas and Southern California has given Luis an exposure to a variety of airspace, and environmental factors that are uncommon in the Northeast. His experience and enthusiasm is going to be a huge benefit to the students lucky enough to fly with him.

Please join us in extending a huge welcome to both Kyle and Luis!
